Uzhgorod kids will speak Slovak

In Uzhgorod, there was the opening of the first in Ukraine kindergarten group, where children will learn and communicate only in Slovak, the Zakarpatska Pravda informed. The opening ceremony, in addition to kids – future pupils, was attended by their parents, the administration of the kindergarten, partners in educational programs, as well as the Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod Janka Burianova.

"Your land is well-known beyond it, because here there are many ethnic groups and nationalities, who used to be tolerant of each other. So each ethnic minority must feel entitled to bring up their children in their parent language. In particular, Slovaks are pleased to have opportunity to participate in this process, and their kids can learn their native language. Although, of course, that does not mean that they will not learn Ukrainian," – the diplomat said.

The head of Uzhgorod pre-school №42, where the group of children from national minority was opened, Oksana Kasynets explained the necessity of it in Uzhgorod: "Obviously, the choice of our institution is associated with our location in the city. After all, we are the closest to Storozhnytsia which, as you know, is densely populated by Slovaks. Often when talking to parents, I would hear that they would like their children to learn their mother tongue. And a fruitful cooperation with Slovak organizations has allowed us to realize this project."
