In Transcarpathia, they decided to restore narrow gauge railways

At the initiative of the association "European Transport Workers Union of Ukraine" and with the support of the Public Council of the second convocation at the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, the Assembly of Public Councils of Transcarpathia, the works on the implementation of the project to restore effective functioning of mountain 750 mm railways in the Carpathian region of Ukraine have been intensified, the site of the Assembly informed.

The expert group examined operating nodes of railway tracks (750mm). Experts noted that in Vynogradiv, there is one of the nodes where there is a railway line of two standards - 750mm and 1520mm. However, the infrastructure of this object is neglected, needs significant upgrades and overhauls, but the 750 mm railway and routes of passenger trains at least remain suitable to participate in the project.

The group also visited the train shed in Korolevo. They held a meeting with the chief of the train shed on the prospects and opportunities of mountain railways basing the first stage in the train shed in Korolevo. There was also a meeting with employees of the operating narrow gauge train shed, where there are platforms, passenger trains, repair shop and fuel and oil warehouse.

As a result of the meeting, it was decided to examine other parts of the narrow gauge railway in Transcarpatian region and other regions of the Carpathian area and to continue gathering input data for the design and the repair of mountain 750mm railways.

After the examination, in the city of Uzhgorod, they signed a protocol on cooperation between the project participants. Under this Protocol, the Parties agreed on the plan of trips to Hungary and Slovakia to see the conditions of the functioning of tourist narrow gauge railways that have long been tried and tested there. They also agreed on the plan of action for the preparation of an international conference on the development of the tourism component of communities in the Carpathian region through narrow gauge railways.
