Chop customs officers seized 2,366 icons and crucifixes

An attempt to import modern icons and crucifixes was prevented at the international checkpoint "Tisa" of the Chop Customs. According to experts, their value is 590,000 UAH.

Customs officers found icons and crucifixes among the personal effects of a Ukrainian, en route from Greece to Ukraine in a van. First, the citizen of Ukraine was asked to complete a customs declaration in which he stated personal data, information about the vehicle and personal belongings. During oral questioning, he confirmed the information stated in the customs declaration, and denied carrying any other goods, including those subject to declaration and taxation.

During the customs control of the vehicle, in the luggage compartment, they found undeclared goods in 15 cartons.

Over this fact of the customs offense, officers of the Chop Customs drew up a report on violation of customs regulations against the Ukrainian on the grounds of an offense under article 472 of the Customs Code of Ukraine.

According to the article 511 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, under the report on violation of customs regulations, the direct object of the offense - icons and crucifixes - was temporarily confiscated.
