Uzhgorod: two candidates in the constituency are competing for the title of the "single agreed" candidate

On Tuesday morning, October 21, in Uzhgorod (single-mandate constituency number 68), there appeared leaflets with information that the candidate from the party "Petro Poroshenko Block" Robert Horvath is the single agreed candidate in the constituency. The leaflet contains logos of the "Batkivshchyna" and "Svoboda" parties.

The candidate on the "Svoboda" party list Igor Shvaika during his visit to Uzhgorod on October 18 publicly announced that this political party really supported the candidacy of Robert Horvath in the constituency and therefore, representative of the "Svoboda" Igor Vashenko withdrew his candidacy.

Instead, the candidate on the "Batkivshchyna" party list Ivan Kolodiy told a representative of the OPORA that his party did not support any candidate in the constituency, including Robert Horvath.

Ivan Kolodiy also added that Uzhgorod city organization of the "Batkivshchyna" party did not give permission to use the logo of the party on Robert Horvath campaign leaflets.

The head of Robert Horvath's election headquarters Andriy Ryba in a comment to the OPORA said that the nominee of the "Petro Poroshenko Block" was approved as the single agreed candidate for constituency number 68. This was agreed with the central election headquarters of the "Batkivshchyna". And if local party representatives do not know it, they should call to Kyiv. Andriy Ryba added that if the parties had not agreed on the single candidate in the constituency, then the "Batkivshchyna" and the "Svoboda" would not have removed their candidates.

Meanwhile, a self-nominated candidate, the Uzhgorod City Council Secretary Victor Schadey in his campaign materials implies that he is "the single democratic candidate." In particular, the statement of Serhiy Kysylychyn is published in Shchadey campaign leaflet. In this text, it is not stated that the representative of the "Batkivshchyna" withdrew his candidacy in favor of Shchadey.

However, this information is visually placed next to direct campaigning for Victor Shchadey by the Uzhgorod National University Rector Volodymyr Smolanka and the head doctor of the city hospital Ivan Kurakh. The title of the statement is "Kysylychyn withrdrew his candidacy in favor of the strongest". So if a voter does not read the text, he or she may assume that the candidate from the "Batkivshchyna" withdrew his candidacy in favor of Victor Shchadey.

Also Victor Schadey hints that Serhiy Kysylychyn withdrew his candidacy in his favor on his page on the network "Facebook": "I talked with Serhiy and his fellow party members, we discussed the situation in our constituency. I am glad that members of the "Batkivshchyna" gave up their own ambitions for the sake of common interest - not to let a Party of Regions member to the Parliament. I hope that other candidates will also show prudence - only together we can win"
