UNHCR Office Regional Representative visited Transcarpathia

The Regional Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Oldrich Andrysek visited Transcarpathia. October 14, he met with the Chief of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region Igor Mykhailyshyn. The meeting was also attended by the First Deputy Head of the SMS Office in the region Oleksandr Berdar, the director of the Department for Foreigners and Stateless Persons Yuriy Markov, the director of the temporary accommodation center in the region Luka Fedurtsya and the Director of the International Fund for Public Health and the Environment "Carpathian Region" (NEEKA) Albert Pirchak.

Oldrich Andrysek noted that Transcarpathia is among the leaders in terms of adaptation processes regarding people who are in the process of obtaining the status of refugee or person in need of additional protection. Since the beginning of the year, 76 asylum seekers have turned to units of the State Migration Service with relevant statements. UNHCR Office Regional Representative noted the high professional level of service, work with this vulnerable category of persons. Also Oldrich Andrysek hopes that the temporary accommodation center in the region will not lose its positions. They talked about improving the social conditions of the institution inhabitants, providing educational programs.

Currently, 59 refugees and 70 persons in need of additional protection are registered with the migration service in Transcarpathia.
