Mayor of Uzhgorod will be elected in two rounds

Elections of mayors in big cities are expected to be conducted in two rounds - this is stated in the Coalition Agreement signed yesterday. Chapter VI "The reform of the electoral law," para. 2.3. of the Agreement provides for "introduction of

elections of mayors of large cities (according to the law) in two rounds

and on the basis of the absolute majority of voters who have voted." Also, MPs from the coalition are committed to change the system of local elections - deputies of municipal, district and regional councils will be elected according to the proportional electoral system with open lists. Also, the MPs plan to reduce the limit of deputies of local councils.

Regarding the timing of local elections, the Coalition Agreement provices that the local authorities in the country are to be reformatted during the first half of 2015.
