We have the first Transcarpathian play on Shevchenko
On March 6, in the Transcarpathian Regional Academic Puppet Theater "Bavka", there was the premiere of the play "Pages of the poet's diary" dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko. After the play, representatives of the journalist club "Transcarpathian Theater" talked to its creators
The play "Pages of the poet's diary" is based on fragments from two pieces of Transcarpathian writer Oleksandr Havrosh that for several years has been creatively interpreting the life of the poet. The genre of the production is complex - experimental artistic and journalistic performance. It shows the period of the exile of the poet, delves into the inner state of the person, who, while being in captivity, banned to write and paint, keeps his spirit and even creates masterpieces. The diary of Taras Shevchenko is a vivid document of that time. It was creatively interpreted by the playwright and the crew.
The director and the leading actor of the play is Mykola Karpenko. He calls the production a kind of "a literary hodgepodge" which combines poems and songs, dancing and diary lines.
Interestingly, the actors selected poems themselves. As viewers, they are surprised at how relevant the works of Taras Shevchenko are.
The chief director of the theater Natalia Oryeshnikova says that in addition to "Pages of the poet's diary," this year they plan to stage another play for younger viewers based upon poems of the Ukrainian genius. Famous director Oleksandr Kutsyk is working on it.
The author of the play Oleksandr Havrosh in general is satisfied with the work. He is surprised that the play was produced in one month.
Professor of UzhNU Serhiy Fedaka says that the play reminded him of army years. "They showed all the idiocy of the soldier's existence. It is interpreted by a subtle nature of artist and shown in the form of dreams, nightmares, nervous singing, even erotic fantasies. From the perspective of a soldier's psychology, it is reproduced realistically. The play was a success." Interestingly, "Pages of the poet's diary" is the first Transcarpathian production about Taras Shevchenko.
Students and teachers of UzhNU will be able to see the show on Friday, March 28, at 19.00, when it will be shown at the festival "March Cats."
