Slovakia will help Transcarpathian Slovaks. The friendship was valued at 2,000 euros
Last week, in Bratislava, the Government for Slovaks living abroad distributed grants to support national and cultural societies that operate outside the country. In general, they approved 434 projects totaling 650 thousand euros. Transcarpathian Slovaks received only 2,000 euros. This amount will be equally distributed between two projects of Uzhgorod Union of Slovaks. One is the publication of the book "Our Shtefanik" and installation of the commemorative plaque in his honor in Velyky Berezny. Another project is the publication of cultural and historical calendar for 2015.
Slovaks refused to fund five other projects. Those include three projects of the L. Stuhr Society in Transcarpathia: the Slovak Folklore Festival "Slovatska Ruzha", the Summer School of Slovak Language and the reconstruction of the building of the Slovak Cultural Center in Uzhgorod. The Ukrainian-Slovak Institute of Humanitarian Initiatives, which planned to publish textbooks in Slovak language "Mathematics" for third grade students and "Introduction to Computer Science", was also left without funding.
