In Mukachevo, unknown persons robbed a church

At night, unidentified persons robbed the Holy Trinity Church in  Mukachevo. They stole from the church six crosses with decorations and five gilt boxes with the relics of saints. Mukachevo police officers are looking for the offenders who dared to commit this crime in the first week of Lent.

In the morning, the prior of the Holy Trinity Church reported the theft to Mukachevo city police. Arriving at the scene, the police officers inspected the church and the neighborhood around. On the building of the church, they found no signs of burglary, the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Sector of Mukachevo City Police Department Yaroslav Tovkan said. Probably, the thieves picked up the lock on the back door of the church, since the facade was well lit.

- The crime was committed solely for selfish motives, since it was found out that the offenders were looking for money. All boxes for donations were moved from the usual places, - the head of the investigation sector said. Currently, the police are taking steps to identify the persons involved in the criminal offense. The amount of damages, according to priests, is about 20,000 UAH.

The criminal proceedings have been opened over this incident under Part 3 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft, coupled with breaking and entering)
