Fule offered to accept Ukraine into the EU

European Commissioner Stefan Fule said that due to the situation in Ukraine, the EU may consider expanding.

He said this in an interview to the German newspaper Die Welt, the Russian Service of the DW reported.

The Commission confirms its proposal to admit Ukraine into the EU.

"If we are to seriously change that part of Eastern Europe that have been affected by current events, we should use the strongest instrument of policy available in the EU - expanding," - he said.

"It has an unprecedented and effective stabilizing force" - Fule said.

As you know, on March 16, in the Crimea there was illegal and unrecognized "referendum" on entry to the Russian Federation.

March 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree recognizing "the independence of the Crimea."

On March 18, Putin will speak on annexia of the Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia.

Western countries have introduced a series of sanctions against some Russians and are willing to enhance them.
