22-24 of May, 2014, there will be the second stage of the campaign "I run so she could walk!" – a 200 kilometer race of an athlete, a traveler, a seeker of unusual and just an interesting person – Dmytro Dzhmil. The race will take place through mountain trails of Transcarpathia and Lviv region, and will last an average of 36 hours. The start will take place in the city of Stary Sambir in Lviv region, and the finish will be in Uzhgorod on Teatralna Square! Also, this race will set a record of Transcarpathia in 200 km race through mountain route!
The idea of the race emerged spontaneously when in the winter Dmytro returned from a long journey across Asia and had a great desire to do something good for someone in need. Having learnt about Mariyka from Irshava district, Dima without hesitation said, "I’m running so she could walk!" and this expression became the motto of the campaign.
Maria Melesh was born with cerebral palsy. Her mother brings her up on her own without father (who died) and help from family. Over her 14 years of life, Maria has had 3 complex surgeries in Kyiv. One of them was done thanks to help of Transcarpathians. Maria felt a significant improvement, but now the girl needs immediate postoperative rehabilitation, which the family has no money for. Every year, the girl needs about 26,000 UAH for the treatment.
To raise this money, caring people and community activists got together to organize the campaign in such an original way to support those in need. They will be grateful to all, who will contribute to this charitable cause and will become a part of a miracle for Maria, that will definitely happen!
