Early vegetables in Uzhhorod: selection and prices
According to our observations, early vegetables are quite popular at the "green" market in Uzhgorod. And every seller assures: vegetables are fresh, homegrown and the best. Most sellers are not local, mostly from Mukachevo district and from Mala Dobron and Velyka Dobron in Uzhgorod district.
Today, a kilo of cucumbers costs 16 UAH, the same for tomatoes, while early cabbage and zucchini - 6 UAH, salad - 5 UAH, a bunch of dill, chives, parsley and spinach - 2 UAH. Early potatoes broke the record - 18 UAH per kilo. By the way, there is not too much of it here. Radishes cost 5 UAH. "And not a penny less, missus. I grow it by myself," - grandad Tolya from Velyki Luchky in Mukachevo district (as he asked to call himself) says.
There are some early fruits too. Early cherries cost 20 UAH (for a half-liter jar), and strawberries - as much 35 UAH per kilogram. While on the street near the market, its cheaper -30-33 hryvnias (!). However, Uzhgorod residents say, if you want to save, you better go to the "drunk" market or "Bilochka" because it's cheaper there.
We found the price list for the last year, how much early vegetables and fruits cost in that period. As they say, no comment. Last year, a kilogram of cucumbers cost 8-10 hryvnias, cabbage - 3-4 UAH. Early potatoes (kg) cost 8 to 10 UAH, a bunch of onions, parsley or dill - 2 UAH. White radish (one bundle) and zucchini - 5, tomatoes - 15-18 UAH. As for early fruit, a kilo of cherries cost 10 to 15, strawberry - 15 - 25 UAH. Sellers, that we talked to, would say "well, honey, it was last year! Everything is more expensive now." Meanwhile, buyers complain, there you have another "improvement." And some are even more pessimistic, saying that soon there will be no money to buy bread...
