The war has knocked on our door. The first death from the East in Transcarpathia. Roland Popovich was shot dead at a checkpoint in Luhansk. 19-year-old resident of Beregovo from an ordinary working class family was serving under the contract.
A serviceman’s son and a good-natured guy – this is how people in his hometown describe him. A female classmate nearly faints in the lobby, school friends in black shirts and with tears in their eyes refuse to talk about Roland, and teacher Mrs. Eva says – the young man deserves only good words. His grandpa tells in Hungarian: the grandson was cheerful, fond of fishing, and does not seem to believe what happened…
Military authorities said – all happened suddenly, the investigation is underway, but they already know – it happened at the checkpoint, the guy was shot from a car, his colleagues carried him under fire…
Dozens of military leaders of the region and the head of the RSA Valeriy Lunchenko came to the funeral, the service in two languages - Ukrainian and Hungarian. And most importantly – hundreds of Beregovo residents.
No more words. Transcarpathia has lost a son.
