Google maps did not work - border guards did

As part of the measures to strengthen countering illegal migration, yesterday Chop border guards detained two people from the Caucasus region.

During the monitoring of the Ukrainian-Slovak border on the section of the department "Uzhgorod", border guards detected from the observation tower two people who were moving towards the border. The operational group, that covertly arrived at the station, allowed the unknown men to approach engineering structures and detained them while they were trying to overcome them. At the scene of the incident, the offenders reported that they were from Georgia, but did not have any IDs. Also, they said that they were goign to Slovakia and from there they planned to get to Western Europe. By the way, they planned their route across Ukrainian-Slovakian border using the online service Google maps.

The offenders were taken to the border guard unit in order to clarify the circumstances of the offense and draw up administrative and procedural documents. The decision on legal liability and further fate of detainees will be taken in court.
