As reported, earlier this year, the Coordinating Center for the Development of Transport of the Hungarian government on behalf of the European Union is implementing the project "Analysis of the work of the border checkpoint and the establishment of new checkpoints on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border area", developed by the Hungarian consortium "On both sides of the border."
Yesterday, July 25, the project manager of the Coordinating Center for the Development of Transport, the director of the agency "Agenda" Laszlo Bakai and the leading expert Andras Fehervari reported to the management of the Regional Council on the progress of the project, the press service informed.
Now, they completed the study of the capacity of the existing crossing points and analyzed the prospects of opening new crossing points on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. Taking into account the suggestions and with the assistance of local authorities on both sides of the border, they determined areas of development of their road and transport infrastructure.
In the near future, this analysis and propositions will be presented to the Hungarian government. In general, it is offered to have 23 checkpoints on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border with different levels and means of entry, including the existing ones and those that are currently in development (pedestrian, bicycle, motor and railway).
Currently, by the agreement between the two governments, an active development is already underway on four new checkpoints on the Hungarian side. It is proposed to determine, taking into account economic opportunities, 4-5 new checkpoints for development in the near future. In general, specific design estimates for 20 checkpoints will be developed for consideration by both parties.
