Uzhgorod “sheriffs” caught a thief

An Uzhgorod resident lost his best friend and his family trust because of the theft committed while being intoxicated.

Recently, a 52-year-old resident of the city filed a statement to Uzhgorod city police. The applicant reportedd that someone had stolen from the hallway of his apartment a cell phone "Nokia" and a tile-cutter.

Precinct inspectors of Uzhgorod city police found out that the theft had been committed by a 32-year-old local resident, a friend of the victim, whom he had happened to meet in the city and invited to his place. At home they were talking and drinking alcohol. But the owner had too much to drink and fell asleep. At this time, the guest stole the phone and the tile-cutter.  

– The investigation department opened criminal proceedings over the theft under Part 1 of Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft), which is punishable by a fine of up to fifty non-taxable minimum incomes, or correctional labor for up to two years, or imprisonment for up to three years, the Deputy Chief of Uzhgorod City Police Vasyl Dovganich said.
