On the occasion of the opening of the XXII Olympic Winter Games, the NBU issued 17 thousand commemorative coins

February 3, 2014 the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation commemorative coins of 10 and 2 hryvnia "XXII Olympic Winter Games," which continued the series "Sports".

The presentation of coins took place at the NBU Museum of Money.

The coins are dedicated to the XXII Winter Olympic Games which will start on February 7, in the Russian city of Sochi and which will gather the best athletes from over 80 countries. Members of the national team will compete in 9 of the 15 sports, namely in biathlon, figure skating, luge, freestyle, skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, nordic combined and short track. 43 Ukrainian Olympians will be defending the honor of our country.

  

The 10 hryvnia coins are made of 925 silver weighing 31.1 grams in amount of 2000 pieces. The 2 hryvnia coins are made of nickel silver in amount of 15000 pieces.

The obverse of the coins depicts a stylized image of mountains with the inscription "Winter Olympics" on yellow and blue background, symbolizing the colors of the national Olympic team of Ukraine. The reverse of the coins depicts on the foreground a biathlete and athletes - representatives of winter sports against the dark background.

The presentation participants wished Ukrainian athletes victory.
