In 2013, 5 forest fires were recorded in the region
This was stated during a press conference on Wednesday, February 5, by the Chief of the Regional Forestry and Hunting Husbandry Igor Fizyk.
The total area of fires is 4 hectares. According to the chief forester, it is 91% (46.7 ha) less than that of 2012:
- This has been achieved thanks to the timely preventive measures. Thus, we purchase fire equipment and other means to fight the fire. Special video systems are installed to monitor the forests. They are already used in Rakhiv district, soon we plan to install them in Volovets district. Patrol cars equipped with GPS-monitoring are engaged for identification of offenders and rapid response.
Also in 2014, Transcarpathian foresters will be working to further increase the total forest area, by creating 9.1 hectares of new plantations of fir trees
