"Five ancient icons, that we are handing over to the priest Stepan Sich, were recognized cultural property and are not only works of art, but also the spiritual heritage of our people. Therefore, the icons should serve the community, meet their cultural and spiritual needs" - Vadim Symchera, the head of the Transcarpathian customs office said.

The head of the Customs Office noted that the delivery of the icons to the church on this particular day was an extremely pleasant and symbolic event, since December 25 is Christmas on the Gregorian calendar.

It should be noted that one of those icons was detained at the customs post "Tisa" in July 2012, during the customs control of a minibus "Mercedes" driven by a Ukrainian, en route from France to Ukraine. Now the icons will find their place in one of the churches of Khust district.
