The NBU advises banks to not accept large bills through terminals

The National Bank of Ukraine recommended banks to temporarily limit the receipt of banknotes in denominations of 100, 200 and 500 UAH through ATMs and POS terminals.

This is stated in the letter to the regulator №11-219 / 74,519, the UNIAN reported.

The document states that because of the difficult socio-economic situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, there is the risk that large denomination banknotes damaged by banks with special paint or otherwise due to inability of their transportation from areas not controlled by Ukrainian authorities might get into circulation through ATMs with cash reception function.

According to the letter, banks must ensure prompt adjustment of payment devices for the reception of proper banknotes only, eliminating the possibility of receiving damaged notes.

As reported, the National Bank ordered its territorial offices and banks in situations where it is impossible to take away cash and other assets, to ensure damaging of such cash to make it unsuitable for use.
