The construction of new checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border was discussed at the meeting at the Regional Council
Today, the Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko held a meeting on construction of border crossing points on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. The First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council Mykhailo Popovich, the Deputy Governor Mykhailo Rivis, experts of the regional road service, water management service, ecologists, managers from the regional administration participated in the meeting.
Volodymyr Chubirko noted that during November and December, there had been a number of meetings with partners in Hungary at the level of secretaries of state, during which it was agreed that Transcarpathia would join new projects for development of border crossing points.
Also at the meeting, it was informed that the Hungarian partners had completed the study of the capacity of the existing and, based on analysis, the prospects for opening new crossing points on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. Taking into account the suggestions and with assistance of local authorities on both sides of the border, the directions of development of their road and transport infrastructure were identified.
This analysis and proposals were presented to the Hungarian government. In total, it is possible to have 23 checkpoints of different levels and means of entry on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, including the existing ones and those that are currently in development (pedestrian, bicycle, motor road and railway).
According to the Chairman of the Regional Council Volodymyr Chubirko, after a detailed analysis of recommendations from the Hungarian partners. we need to develop joint proposals on how to equip crossing points. This will be the subject of negotiations with Hungarian partners to be held tomorrow in Uzhgorod.
