Hungary plans to open three new checkpoints and build a highway to the border with Ukraine
Today, during the working visit to Transcarpathia, the head of border economy development department of the Ministry of Foreign Economy and Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Kiss-Partiu and the ministerial commissioner of the Danube Region Strategy Istvan Joo met with the head of the Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal and the Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko.
The parties discussed the development of new crossing points on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, which is 137 km long, where the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg region of Hungary borders to Transcarpathia. Representatives of Hungary informed that this year the experts of the coordination center for transport communication had done a lot of work: from the general feasibility study, selection of transport communications to further projecting based on the list of priorities in the project plan. The influence of a new transportation network on the current traffic in the region was analyzed.
According to Volodymyr Chubirko, Ukraine and Transcarpathia in particular are interested in deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation. Moreover, the creation of new crossing points on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border will
revive the economic development of border regions, strengthen the communities' entrepreneurial activity, result in the creation of new jobs, revive deprived areas. However, there are a number of problems on the Ukrainian side, which are still to be adressed, including financial ones caused by the war in the East.
At the meeting, the chairman of the regional council requested the assistance in launching the bus route Beregovo-Nyíregyháza Vásárosnamény and Uzhgorod-Kisvárda-Nyíregyháza. The management of Transcarpathia have appealed to the Ministry of Infrastructure with a relevant request. The Hungarian party informed that this matter would be considered by them this week.
During the meeting it was agreed that within two days, the proposals for the Hungarian party on joint projects would be worked out. Also, representatives of Hungary plan to explore areas of the border, where new crossing points are planned to be opened.
