A campaign to abandon orphanages is launched in Transcarpathia

On Tuesday, December 9, at 7.30, there will be a press tour of Uzhgorod Press Club to Tyachiv where at the boarding school "Parasolka", there will be the presentation of the All-Ukrainian campaign "Open the doors to children." The campaign is being implemented in 12 countries in Europe and aims at complete rejection of orphanages and the transition to a system of raising children in a family environment. 

 The issue of deinstitutionalisation in Transcarpathian region within the All-Ukrainian campaign "Open the doors to children" will also be considered.

Svitlana Yakimelina, the head of the Service for children of the Transcarpathian Regional Administration will tell about achievments of the regional programme for reforming of the system of institutions for orphans and children deprived of parental care in 2012 - 2017.

Katerina Cheltsova, a representative of the charitable organization "Hope and Home" in Ukraine will tell about the nationwide initiative "Open doors for children" and comment on the feasibility of the orphanage system reformatting.

Other experts will discuss the effectiveness of the implementation of the movement to abandon orphanages in Transcarpathia.

In Ukraine, more than 80,000 children are raised in orphanages and over 8,000 lose families annually.
