5000 citizens, who have the status of victims of the Chernobyl disaster, live in Transcarpathia
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dd. 10.11.06 № 945/2006, the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident are honored annually on December 14, on the day when the construction of the sarcophagus over the damaged fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was completed.
Nearly 5 thousand citizens, who have the status of victims of the Chernobyl disaster, live in the region. Two and a half thousand of them are the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster, 290 are disabled as a result of the accident, about one thousand are affected children.
Key benefits and compensations to victims are financed from the state budget. During 2014, payments of about 20 monthly benefits and compensation to citizens, affected by the Chernobyl disaster, amounting to 5.3 million hryvnias have been made.
There remains a positive trend in increasing funding for social protection of Chernobyl victims at the expense of the regional budget. Pharmacies and medical institutions have been reimbursed for the cost of medicines and dentoprosthetic rehabilitation services, provided to Chernobyl victims for free, in amount of 578,000 UAH.
At the expense of regional and local budgets, this year, financial assistance has been provided to 770 families of the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster, large families, families of disabled, seriously ill, and families of survivors among the victims of the Chernobyl disaster.
