"Ukraine is one country" is the theme of the 1st lesson in all schools in Transcarpathia

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine recommends to start a new school year 2014-2015 with the first lesson on the topic: "Ukraine is one country" and reminds that the school year traditionally starts on September 1.

"The socio-political situation and recent developments, the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, Russian terrorists armed action in the eastern regions of Ukraine led to the topic of the first lesson of 2014/2015 school year - "Ukraine is one country," - the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine informed.

The purpose of the first class is the formation of students' understanding of the unity and integrity of Ukraine, its multinational people as a national idea of a free, independent, democratic and prosperous state.

According to the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the main content of the First lesson should be aimed at strengthening the unity of Ukraine, the indivisibility of the territory and the people that inhabit it. During the first class, the teacher has to focus children's attention on the fact that Crimea and Donbass are parts of Ukraine, that people who live in these areas are citizens of Ukraine.

During the First lesson, teacher should help students to understand common interest of all citizens of the state in the development of Ukraine, the need for intellectual, creative and physical development of each individual for prosperity of the state in general, the formation of inter-ethnic tolerance.

According to the recommendations of the Ministry of Education, teacher must stress that patriotism is a normal state of daily life, which should be expressed not only in emergency situations. It is important for students to identify themselves with the Ukrainian people, to want to live in Ukraine, to understand the need to respect the constitutional and legal norms, command of the state language, respect for history, culture and traditions of the Ukrainian people.
