On the Independence Day, a one hundred meter long state flag will be carried in Uzhgorod

August 24, 2014, a patriotic event "With Ukraine in heart!" will be held in Uzhgorod.  The event was initiated by the Transcarpathian regional organization of the "Svoboda" party.In celebration of the Independence Day of Ukraine, talented young people will perform patriotic songs. Later, with the participation of the public, in particular, together with members of the Transcarpathian regional associations "Lemkivshchyna" and "Boykivshchyna of the XXI Century", there will be a solemn procession to the monument of Shevchenko with a 100-meter-long state flag, where there will be a popular assembly.

The program "With Ukraine in heart!" will start at 14.45 on Teatralna Square, with the perfomance of the winners of the XI International festival of young talents "Rekitske Constellation." On stage, there will be the awarding of the winners of the embroidery contest which will be held in the morning in the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, and after that, all the people will make a solemn procession with a giant national flag (100 x 1.5 m) to the monument of Taras Shevchenko.

Near the monument, there will be an assembly dedicated, among other things, to honoring the victims of deportations and ethnic cleansing with signs of genocide on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the deportations of Ukrainians by Polish People’s Republic in 1944-1951.

The state flag was made by the Transcarpathian regional organization of the "Lemkivshchyna" association, whose members are victims of deportations. On Saturday, August 23, 2014, on the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, at 10.00 in the town of Perechyn, citizens in folk costumes will unfurl it in the center of the town and march along the main street from the community center to Narodna Square.
