Deputy Governor on foreign investment in the economy of the region
Mykhailo Rivis: "Attracting investment and credit resources in the economy of the region is strategically important for local development"
During the first three months of 2014, foreign investors invested 6.4 million dollars of foreign direct investments in the region's economy. This was reported by the Department of Economic Development and Trade of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.
The volume of foreign direct investments in the regional economy in January-March this year amounted to 406.6 million U.S. dollars which accounts for 324.5 USD per capita, the experts of the Department said.
Mykhailo Rivis, the deputy head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the management of the region and foreign investors. "Attracting investment and credit resources in the economy of the region is strategically important for local development. Nowadays, Transcarpathia is probably the most active region, which successfully takes advantage of grant programs of the European Union. Thus, entities of Transcarpathian region and border regions of Hungary, Slovakia and Romania are involved in about 40 projects, both as partners and applicants, totaling almost 13 million euros", - Mykhailo Mykhailovich said. He added: "Decentralization of power, reforming of the economy, strengthening of anti-corruption legislation, shift of production to the European market - all this will change approaches to investment attracting."
As for the total foreign trade of goods, in January-May 2014, it amounted to 1.2798 billion U.S. dollars. Exports of goods increased by 6.4%, while imports decreased by 14.8%. During the reporting period, there was a negative foreign goods trade balance in the amount of 129.5 million U.S. dollars.
From January to June this year, carriers of the region transported 2.2 million tons of cargoes, which is 7.0% more than that in the same period in 2013, and 24.6 million passengers, which is 5.7% less than that for the same period last year.
The volume of freight transportation was 3.3791 billion ton-kilometers, passenger transportation - 636.6 million passenger-kilometers, which is 9.8% more and 6.2% less than in the same period in 2013 respectively, the Department of Economic Development and Trade of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration informed.
