The project for creation of a tiflopedagogics center for pre-schools in the city was presented in Uzhgorod. The center will be opened at the PEI №36, where Uzhgorod preschoolers will be able to have their vision fully restored or stabilized.
The project is implemented with the support of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Agency for International Development and Cooperation, the Department of Education of Uzhgorod City Council and the NGO "Carpathian Human Rights Agency "Vested".
The statistics says that every fifth child among nearly 6,000 Uzhgorod preschoolers is visually impaired.
"Such diseases as farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, strabismus, are genetically inherent and progress under the effect of provoking factors. Today, few people imagine their life without computers, tablets, e-books, mobile phones, and this is what can lead to functional impairment of vision in children. The treatment at the Tiflopedagogics Center is primarily focused on prevention of the pathologies and termination of their development. Not all parents have the opportunity to provide this kind of treatment for children at home, and here they will be under the control of doctors and visual impairment specialists" - the children's ophthalmologist Oksana Hychka said.
According to Mykola Yatskov, the Deputy Head of the NGO "Carpathian Human Rights Agency "Vested", the project of the Centre for the amount of 5,000 euros was financed by the Slovak Agency for International Development and Cooperation:
"This project is a great joy and a great cause for us. Many thanks to the people who participated, the kindergarten management, social organization, the City Council. All of them have done a good thing for children," - the Consul General of the Slovak Republic in the city of Uzhgorod Janka Burianova said.
