Transcarpathian tax police seized 75,000 UAH worth of Russian cigarettes

In the first days of April, the operational department received the information about illegal storage of tobacco products in a private accommodation in Mukachevo, the Acting Chief of Operational Department of the Main Office of the Ministry of Income in Transcarpathian region Andriy Milyuchenko said.

After receiving the approval of the Uzhgorod city and district court, a search was performed. During the search, investigators found and seized 5,000 packs of cigarettes produced in Russia without excise stamps. The estimated cost of the seized cigarettes is 75,000 UAH.

The preliminary investigation will establish how foreign-made cigarettes appeared in Transcarpathia and how the offenders planned to use them.

This is the second fact of illicit trafficking of cigarettes produced in Russian Federation since the beginning of the year.

In total, since the beginning of 2014, the tax police in the region have seized excisable goods as 800,000 UAH. Two underground alcohol shops have been closed. Three criminal offenses related to illicit trafficking of excisable goods have been registered in the Single register of pre-trial investigations.
