No landfill in Uzhgorod district meets the requirements – prosecutors

Prosecutors demand to eliminate unauthorized landfills

During the inspection, conducted by Uzhgorod Interdistrict Prosecutor’s Office with the involvement of the State Environmental Inspectorate in Transcarpathian region at certified and non-certified (unauthorized) landfills in Serednye town council, Dubrivka, Ruski Komarivstsi, Patskanyovo, Kyblyary and some other village councils in Uzhgorod district, it was found out that no landfill in the district and the city of Chop complied with the rules of operation and technological requirements than create a negative impact on the environment.

Therefore, the prosecution made requests to heads of all these town and village councils to take all necessary measures to eliminate violations of the Law of Ukraine "On Waste", other legislation in the field of waste management, the causes and conditions that contributed to such violations.

Specifically, prosecutors demand to ensure waste removal according to State health standards and eliminate unauthorized landfills.

In addition, they demand to cancel certain unlawful decisions of the session and the executive committee of some village councils on waste management and to prosecute the guilty officials.
