In Uzhgorod, they will expand parking space, set up bus stops and traffic lights

Yesterday, April 30, there was the meeting of the Transport Commission of Uzhgorod city council, whose members together with representatives of the Public Council discussed the urgent traffic problems of the city.

First of all, in the center of Uzhgorod, they plan to equip modern paid parking space according to European standards. In particular, such parking lot may appear on Fedynets street.

Together with representatives of the city Public council, the commission members considered whether it would be possible to optimize traffic and parking on Petofi square and to expand the parking area near the Transcarpathian Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater.

The deputy mayor Yaroslav Shafar said that the parking on S.Petofi square would be used more effectively if drivers left their cars there for a short period of time.

They plan to set up 9 parking machines on the parking lots. The city council bought them back in 2012, but they still are not being used and stored in the City Hall.

At the meeting of the commission, they made several suggestions as to how to punish defaulters in parking lots. Yaroslav Shafar proposed to block violators with aluminum fence, other members of the commission – to use wheel locking and tow trucks. As for the latter method, according the deputy mayor, it is now impossible because in Uzhgorod there is no designated space to accommodate all fined vehicles. In addition, it requires changes in Ukrainian legislation regarding parking – currently existing laws complicate the trial of offenders. So with the help of lawyers of the initiative group, the members of the commission will appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers on amendments to the legislation. After that, they will establish a commission that will decide where the parking machines should be placed.

In addition to parking machines, in Uzhgorod, they plan to install traffic lights on S.Petofi Sq., Tolstoy and Koryatovich streets (near the market).

Social activists also asked to arrange a bus stop for the route number 10 – residents of nearly eight streets in Horyany and Radvanka neighborhoods need it very much. Soon, one stop on-demand will appear there – near the "ABC".   Another bus stop will be installed behind the gas station.

The members of the transport commission, together with representatives of the initiative group prepared a letter on the settlement of fares in public transport. Thus, all the nuances of the tariff increase will be discussed already next week.
