Uzhgorod officials assure that nurseries will not be closed

Recently a woman, who had pre-registered her son in the nursery of an Uzhgorod kindergarten, addressed to uzhgorod.in. According to her, two months later, she received a call from the kindergarten and was told that due to a shortfall in the next academic year ther will not be a nursery in their institution. We asked the head of the education department of Uzhgorod City Council Oksana Babunych to comment on the situation.

- There have been no decisions to close nurseries in city kindergartens. This is just rumours.

During the year, we are not making any changes. All decisions are taken before the new school year.

Due to lack of demand, in some kidergartens there is not even a need for nurseries, in some there is only one and in others there are two or three. In total, this year there are 36 nurseries in 30 municipal kindergartens. For comparison, last year there were 38.

Even if a certain kindergarten does not have a nursery, it is worth asking whether there is one in a nearby pre-school. After all, in Uzhgorod there are no problems with transportation within the city - Ms. Oksana said.
