Today is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is celebrated annually on January 27. This date, by decision of the General Assembly of the United Nations of 2005, is dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz (Oswiecim) concentration camp prisoners on January 27, 1945.

UN Resolution declares unacceptable the denial of the Holocaust as a historical event, and also calls to promote educational programs about the genocide and protect historical monuments as places where there were mass killings of Jews.

For the first time the International Holocaust Remembrance Day was celebrated worldwide in 2006.

In Ukraine, the resolution on the annual commemoration of the Holocaust victims was adopted by the Parliament on July 5, 2011.

According to general estimates, among the victims of mass extermination of Jews during the Second World War, there were four and a half million adults and one and a half million children.
