One of the best climbers of Ukraine died on the Hemba
A prominent Ukrainian climber and his friend were killed by an avalanche in the Carpathian Mountains.
On Sunday, January 27, at 14:10 in the Kryvi Shlyakhy tract near the Hemba mountain in Mizhhirya, one of the rescue teams found the bodies of two tourists from Kyiv who had disappeared back on January 19.
As uzhgorod.in reported, 19 climbers arrived from Kyiv, who actively helped rescuers to search for their missing friends.
The dead climbers are Victor Hryshchenko and Victor Bahmet.
Victor Hryshchenko was master of sport in mountaineering, master of sports of international class, two-time champion of the USSR in ice-snow class. He was the coach of the first Ukrainian expedition to the Manasla Mt. in 1990-91. He was one of the best climbers in Ukraine. His routes in Crimea, in the Caucasus and Pamir-Alayi are the example of climbing techniques and dream of many climbers, writes 4sport.ua.
This year Victor Hryshchenko would turn 70 years. His energy and vitality was enviable - people, who knew the climber, say.
Officers of MOE believe that tourists could die because of an avalanche or they were covered with a snow cornice.
