18-20 of September 2013 in Donetsk, there was the twentieth jubilee Congress of International Association of Hepatology Surgeons of the CIS countries "Current problems of surgical hepatology."

Such a large event is held on the territory of Ukraine for the second time - the first one was held in Kyiv in 1998.

The Congress was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the National Academy of Medical Sciences, the Association of Hepatology Surgeons of the CIS countries, Donetsk National Medical University. and Uzhgorod National University.

This year's congress was attended by approximately 500 surgeons from 17 countries. In addition to Ukrainian specialists, surgeons-hepatologists from Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Germany, etc. came to Donetsk The experts discussed the issues of diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the liver, bile ducts and pancreas. The work of the Congress concerned mainly practical public health. Specifically, they discussed such urgent problem as acute pancreatitis.  In the overall structure of surgical diseases of the abdominal cavity it takes the second place and is preceded only by acute appendicitis. Solving these problems is important not only in terms of medicine, but also in terms of social life, as mostly people of working age (30-50 years) suffer from pancreatitis. The same applies to obstructive jaundice and liver metastases.

Chonka, the chief surgeon of Beregovo District Hospital MD V. Kustryo, surgeon Y. Ihnatyshak. The department of surgical diseases of UzhNU prepared two reports: "Endovascular technologies in the surgical treatment of obstructive colon cancer with liver metastases" and "Endogenous intoxication in acute pancreatitis," which received a positive response from the chairman prof. Yu. Patyutko, the chief specialist of the Anti-Cancer Institute (Moscow), prof. D. Hranov (St. Petersburg), best transplantologists prof. O. Kotenko (Kyiv) and A. Zhao (Moscow).

During the medical forum, some pleasant missions were also performed: professors P. Fomin, P. Kondratenko, and V. Rusyn became members of the Association from Ukraine and were awarded as the best members of the Association of Hepatology Surgeons of the CIS.  For significant contributions to the development of medical science and practice of hepatology surgery, they were awarded with insignia and titles of Honorary member of the Association of Hepatology Surgeons of the CIS.
