The real congratulation on the Day of the City

Along with the photographs, which community activists wanted to give to the city government, they also wanted to give this real congratulation, the text of which we publish here in full.

We, Uzhgorod residents who care about the state and development of our city, believe that its anniversary is an occasion not to celebrate, but to finally begin active efforts to establish quality and comfortable urban environment in Uzhgorod. Therefore, we remind municipal authorities of their obligations to Uzhgorod citizens, who have authorized officials and deputies to work for the benefit of the city, and demand:

 1. To stop the destruction and begin the revival of the historic center of Uzhgorod.

 2. To ensure quality water supply and lighting of the city and, generally, adequate work of its public utilities.

 3. To free the city from the dominance of outdoor advertising, to develop a strategy on this issue that would provide, in particular, the restriction of advertising in the center.

4. To repair roads, sidewalks and start the development of cycling infrastructure.

5. To stop cluttering the city with "hardscaping elements," to prevent installation thereof in inappropriate locations and in unacceptable forms.

6. To stop the occupation of green zones and surrounding areas, to take care of creating high-quality public space.

 7. To make the work of the city authorities open to the public and to adopt major decisions only after consultation with the community.

This list of requirements is not exhaustive, however, we believe that they are currently the most relevant. We expect thoughtful, prompt and effective measures in those areas, we emphasize the importance of fulfillment of both pre-election promises and official duties, and remind about our right for civil disobidience and other actions provided for by the law, which may be caused by non-fulfillment of Uzhgorod residents’ demands.

On behalf of Uzhgorod citizens, several public associations, including the NGO "Bridge", signed the appeal.

The activists hope that the real congratulation to the city will get to the Mayor Pogorelov. At least he will see what active Uzhgorod residents really want…
