Representatives of the UNESCO are interested in beech woods of the National Park "Synevyr"

Employees of the National Park "Synevyr" participated in the International scientific and practical conference, held in Rakhiv from 16 to 22 September 2013, at the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve and dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the creation of the reserve. The conference topic: "Primeval beech forests and ancient beech forests in Europe: issues of conservation and sustainable use."

Primeval beech forests of the National Park "Synevyr", which claim to be included in the World Heritage List, were presented by the deputy director on research work, Ph.D. Yuri Tyukh. A group of famous scholars worked on the presented research work entitled "Current status of beech forests in the National Park "Synevyr".

The participants of the conference were able to visually see and appreciate primeval forests of the National Park "Synevyr" thanks to cinematographer Andriy Mykhailyk who presented the researchers a film about the beech forests of the national park. Vivid and stunning footage of Synevyr primeval forests accompanied by professional comments of scholars from Kholodny Institute made a great impression on the audience. English subtitles in the film helped UNESCO representatives to better understand and appreciate the value of forests in the National Park "Synevyr" and the importance of their further preservation.

"Today both natural and man-made factors threat primeval beech forests of the National Park "Synevyr". Therefore, the task of the inclusion of these forests to the UNESCO World Heritage List is urgent." - the director of the National Park "Synevyr" Mykola Derbak said.

Mykola Derbak invited the representative of UNESCO Professor Hans Knapp to come to the national park and view the areas of natural forests.
