"Yesterday, one of the Internet sites published an information that almost all copies of the "Europa Center" newspaper was bought up. And probably in order to hide the auction to sell public property of Transcarpathia" – the public figure – human rights activist Vitaliy Gregor wrote in an email to the uzhgorod.in.
Yesterday, in the evening, Vitaliy Gregor decided to check this information and tried to purchase this "sensational" issue of the paper in 5 newsstands and none of them had it. "The sellers said that some persons, who were clearly not regular customers, within a short time, bought up almost all the copies. Saleswomen were surprised by this, as this newspaper has never been that popular in comparison with other very well known publications in the region" – the human rights activist says.
"Today newsstands received additional copies of this newspaper. After reading it, it became clear what the reason of such "not healthy" interest in this issue of the newspaper was. It’s all caused by Kyiv "Universal Commodity Exchange", which decided to place an ad for the sale of municipal property of villages, towns and cities of Transcarpathian region.
Thus, according to the attached photocopy of the "Europa Center" newspaper № 36 (714) dd. 06.09.2013, a number of cultural and social heritage items of local communities are put on sale. There would be nothing wrong about it, if the price were adequate.
Thus, the two-storey building in the historic center of Transcarpathian region, former Jewish synagogue at: Uzhgorod, Zhupanatska st., 17 (Lot number 3) is going be to sold for 3,867,528 UAH. That is, the cost of 1 sq. m. of the historic building in the city center and in good condition is valued at 490 dollars, while the market price is at least 2,000 dollars per 1 sq. m.
We hope that prosecutors will not ignore this process of illegal privatization.
