Carpathian forests are monitored with TV towers

Special equipment to help foresters monitor the forest has been installed in Rakhiv district. This was announced was during a briefing with reporters by the head of the Regional Forestry and Hunting Department Igor Fizyk.

Also marking of wood helps to fight against smuggling and corruption in the timber trade.

In addition, they plan to purchase cable logging units for all forestries. In particular, by the end of the year they will have purchased two cable logging units for Mukachevo and Rakhiv forestries.

Transcarpathia is one of the first regions of Ukraine, where the international certification of forests is carried out. Now the region is also preparing for the visit of the European Steering Committee that will conduct the certification.

The problem for Transcarpathian foresters now is the extinction of spruce plantations:

- This process is observed in the forests of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi regions. One of the reasons for this is climate change. Temperature is increasing, and the trees now grow not in their habitat. We counteract this process by the creation of mixed plantings, - the chief forester of the region said.

Igor Fizyk also spoke about the sale of timber. The sales of untreated wood is carried out through exchange auctions. This year, the sales level reached more than 84% of auctioned timber and deliveries under auction deals were executed at 113%. While in 2011, 80% of timber offered for auction was sold and the delivery performance was 81%. Wood is exported to Slovakia, Romania and Hungary.
