An unemployed man was caught stealing manhole covers

Damage to equipment or theft of its elements leads to disruption of a process cycle and creates the conditions which compromise safety of railway workers.

Covers for manholes are often stolen. Most often, a thief brings a cover to the nearest scrap collection point.

Recently, the police, during the inspection of Uzhgorod station, found out the theft of a manhole cover. During the inspection of the surrounding area, they found this cover near one of the houses, hidden under gravel.

In hot pursuit, it was found out that the manhole cover, which was found near the house, had been stolen by a 31-year-old local resident. The man with no permanent income intended to sell the manhole cover for scrap. The circumstances and the amount of damages are being determined. The investigation is conducted under Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Theft."

The cost of removal of damaged equipment and its installation is about 5000 UAH.
