The offenders, who were transporting illegal immigrants across the border, were sentenced to three years
The sentence of Uzhgorod city and district court in Transcarpathian region regarding the organized criminal group, that illegally trafficked migrants to neighboring countries, had entered into force.
The criminal group consisted of five local residents, headed by a 35-year-old unemployed man, who, in exchange for 8000 dollars, agreed to organize the illegal crossing of Ukrainian-Slovakian border for immigrants from Ethiopia and Somalia.
May 5, 2012, on the outskirts of the village of Orikhovytsya in Uzhgorod district, the members of the criminal group met four illegal immigrants and planned to take them to the border, where another trafficker was already waiting to take them to Slovakia.
The same evening, in Perechyn and Velyky Berezny districts, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two cars with four illegal immigrants without papers and 5 local residents. The criminals were transported migrants in the trunk.
Uzhgorod City and District Court convicted five citizens of Ukraine under Part 3 of Art.332 (organizing illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine committed in respect of several persons by an organized group for financial gain) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced them to 3 years imprisonment with the probation period for 3 years for each.
