The Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Ivan Baloha appealed to the Prosecutor of the Transcarpathian region Volodymyr Korban regarding the situation about Narodna Square.
"September 29, 2013, the construction machinery was driven to Narodna Square in Uzhgorod. Using this machinery, they removed from a portion of the square a layer of fertile soil and took it in an unknown direction.Only after the intervention of activists and residents of Uzhgorod, those activities were stopped.
At the same time, we know that the earthworks and renovation works on the said square were carried out without the necessary permits and legal sources of funding.
As of today, a historical attraction, Narodna Square, is in poor condition. Based on the above, we request to respond to the said actions, conduct appropriate checks and take actions to prosecute those responsible for the destruction of the monument of architecture,"- the letter to the prosecutor states.
