Today, at 13.00, the exhibition of Hungarian artist Victor Vasarely, one of the founders of op art (style of modern art, which makes extensive use of optical illusions) will open in Uzhgorod Art Center "Ilko Gallery". Graphic artist, painter, designer, author of the monumental compositions, founder and most influential artist of optical art, who influenced not only its development, but also design and architecture.
Works by Victor Vasarely are provided for display in the regional center from the private collection of Chepei Tibor.
He actively applied his achievments in op art in design, advertising and architecture, which brought him worldwide fame and op art became a daily routine.
After his first solo exhibition in 1930 Victor Vasarely moved to Paris, where he worked as graphics artist and artistic consultant for various advertising agencies.
His artistic tastes did not fit into the artistic atmosphere of the city, which was dominated by the surrealists. Only in the postwar years, Paris acquired the status of the center of geometric and abstract painting.
During 1930s, Vasarely studied optical impact of graphic structures - geometric patterns that set the pace in the picture plane, numerous grids and their overlay, shape and background interaction, experimented with black and white contrasts. Victor Vasarely began to systematically apply optical effects in his graphics.
The exhibition of works by great master in Uzhgorod runs until December 9.
