The Transcarpathian was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment

The sentence of the Uzhgorod city and district court in the Transcarpathian region reagrding a local resident, who was found guilty under Part 2 of Art.332 (organizing illegal trafficking of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, has entered into force.

The 48-year-old resident of Uzhgorod district agreed to illegally smuggle a resident of Volovets district and her child to the neighboring state. It turned out that this man had already been sentenced in April for the same crime and was serving a suspended sentence.

In June this year, the man met the woman and her minor child at the bus station in Uzhgorod. The next day, at dawn, he brought them to the village of Kamianytsia in Uzhgorod district, located near the state border and planned to transfer offenders to Slovakia bypassing checkpoints. However, they failed to get to another state - a few meters from the border, the guards detained them.

The investigation department of the office of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region initiated against the trafficker criminal proceedings over the unlawful trafficking of persons across the state border.

As it turned out, the woman had worked in some EU Member State, where she had been deported from. Since she had no opportunity to go abroad legally, she decided to cross the border illegally.

According to the city and district court decision, the local resident was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months imprisonment. The woman was fined.
