Talking about reforms in the health system, today, March 6, during a meeting with journalists at the press center of the Department of Health of Transcarpathian Regional Administration, the head of the department Roman Shnitser talked about ways to improve eye care for the population of the region.
"Today we can not talk about the ophthalmic service outside of the reforms that are taking place in health care. In this context, studying the options, together with experts, we conclude: stationary eye care should be provided in two or three specialized centers in the region, and not divided into 2-3 beds in each district hospital, as it is now," – Roman Shnitser said.
"Part of ophthalmic examinations of the first level will be performed by family physicians. It is planned to provide all medical units of family medicine with the necessary equipment. So in every office there should be a table to check visual acuity, devices for measuring internal eye pressure and fundus examination" – the head of the ophtalmology department of the Transcarpathian regional clinic Oleg Moroz said.
According to the specialist, a family physician should be the first to suspect problems with eyes, to then refer the patient for a qualified help to the ophthalmologist. So, speaking of the reforms, today they make emphasis on improvement of the first level of medical care.
