World No Tobacco Day: Ukraine overcame the tobacco epidemic

May 23, in Kyiv, there was the briefing of MPs from different political parties, representatives of the WHO Country Office in Ukraine and the Ministry of Health to mark the World No Tobacco Day, which is celebrated every year on May 31.

During the briefing, the deputy Tetyana Bakhtyeyeva said: "Our country has for many years been included in the top five smoking countries. Thanks to the consistent position of MPs, the statistics today has changed. If two years ago, Ukraine had 10 million smokers, now their number is 8.4 million. And of course, the law on the total ban of smoking in all public areas, which came into force on December 16, 2012, is bringing real results. The law works very well. The results of monitoring conducted in 13 cities of Ukraine, including Kyiv and Crimea, showed that the law is fulfilled by 90%."
