Weather record: such an early summer has never been in Transcarpathia
In Transcarpathia, a summer weather usually prevails in the second half of May. Summer starts with a daily average temperature of 15 degrees and higher. This year we have a seasonal anomaly, the Deputy Head of the Transcarpathian Center of Hydrometeorology Vasylyna Blokh says. Summer has begun, both in mountainous areas and in the plains area, generally on April 23. This is 3 weeks sooner than usually. Such an early summer in Transcarpathia has not been recorded in all the almost 68 years of observations.
Last year summer also came early - in the beginning of May, ie 2 weeks sooner. The absolute maximum temperature in 67 years of observations was recorded - 32 ° Celsius (1 and 2 of May). Basically, May in Transcarpathia is more often dry and hot than cold and rainy. Over the last 30 years of observations, this spring month was rainy only in 1984-1985 and in 2010, when it was raining three weeks in a row, and rates reached 2,5-3 monthly norms. In May snowfall is also possible, but only in the highlands of the region (1984). May showers, mainly, have torrential nature. Floods also have been recorded this month - in 1970 in the basin of the Tisa. In the lowlands of the region, small hurricanes are possible, especially in the southern part of Uzhgorod, Mukachevo and Khust districts. The last time this phenomenon was recorded in Mukachevo and in the suburbs in the evening and at night of May 18 to 19, 2005. Dry days with relative humidity less than 30% are very dangerous in May: the may cause forest fires.
According to the long-term forecast, the average temperature in May is expected to be 16 °, and 12 ° in the mountains, which is 1-2 ° higher than normal. Monthly rainfall is predicted at 85 mm, and 125 mm in the mountains, which is within the normal range.
