"During the checks of the observance of the Laws of Ukraine "On Protection of Childhood" and "On Baby Food" by local authorities and local government bodies, numerous violations of children’s rights to safe, good food were found" – the head of the child protection department of the Transcarpathian Prosecutor’s Office Olesya Bokoch informed.
It was found out that local authorities did not provide the full nutrition of children in educational institutions, specialized institutions for children.
Due to inadequate funding, none of the inspected establishments fully comply with the norms of nutrition. The children’s diet is dominated by cheap, low-grade, low-calorie food.
In addition, prosecutors checks revealed irregularities in tender procedures for the purchase of food in schools. The Prosecutor of Tyachiv district, following the inspection as part of the supervision over the observance and application of laws in the Department of education, family, youth and sports of Tyachiv district state administration, when using budget funds for hot food for the students and children of privileged categories, initiated the criminal proceedings.
"Local government bodies hardly care about creating appropriate conditions for the nutrition of pre-school children and receive a parental fee that exceeds 30% of the established fee for child one-day nutrition, which is illegal" – the head of the child protection department of the regional prosecutor’s office Olesya Bokoch said.
