5 hectares of dry grass burned down near Volovets

19 May at 17:10, the emergency service of Transcarpathia was reported by Lviv Regional Coordination Flight Control Center that in the Carpathians (Volovets district) there was a strong smoke. This was detected from an airliner.

It was later found out that in the Bilytska tract near Volovets, a dry grass was burning. Free of duty Volovets rescuers (8 people) were sent to the place of call. Due to the mountainous terrain fire-fighters had to walk to the scene. Forestry workers (10 persons) came to their help. The fire front was about one kilometer wide. The works were complicated due to strong smoke, because the fire was in the lowlands.

At 22:03, they managed to localize the fire, and in another half hour to completely eliminate it.

The fire destroyed dry grass over the area of ​​about 5 hectares. Direct damage caused by the fire and its cause are being established – the TD of MOE in Transcarpathian region reported.
