Stroke leads to poverty – experts say (PHOTOS)

1 hryvnia for prevention can save 40,000 hryvnias for treatment, physicians dealing with the strokes calculated. Mortality due to this disease in Ukraine is extremely high. This was discussed today at the press conference dedicated to the launching of the annual large-scale prevention campaign "Stop Stroke."

"Last year in Transcarpathian region, there were 2,300 strokes, 400 people died – the director of the Transcarpathian Center of Neurosurgery and Neurology Volodymyr Smolanka reported – but disability as a separate issue, and therefore the prevention of the disease is of the first priority."

During the development of stroke, every minute is important, because 2 million nerve cells die every minute, and it often causes irreversible processes in the brain. Recovery of the body functions (and stroke blocks motor activity, speach) takes time, patience, and money. That is why doctors urge people to monitor blood pressure and sugar content – the main factors in the development of stroke.
